The Basic Rider Course is intended for those with little or no motorcycling experience. This is a hands-on, step-by-step course that covers the basics of operating a motorcycle and safety-oriented mental strategies.

Five hours of classroom instruction includes risk awareness, protective gear, motorcycle controls, riding skills and street strategies. Approximately ten hours of on-motorcycle range exercises are conducted on training bikes (125-500cc) where students learn and practice motorcycle riding.

**This course is compliant with Pennsylvania Minor Student Driver Training and up to 15 training hours are applied towards the 65 hour requirement.

Please note that the riding portion can be physically demanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program by clicking here.

Total instruction time is 15 hours, including a skill evaluation at the end of the course. Adult students that meet evaluation standards receive a completion card and earn their motorcycle driver’s license, waiving the on-cycle skill test at the DLC.
